Known to many as the “Mayor of Reisterstown,” Calvin Reter has dedicated his life to building a better Main Street.
Born on his family’s Owings Mills farm in 1930, the Reter family has played a key role in the growth of the area since the 1800s. As a child, Calvin would help his father run a general store on Reisterstown Road, and yet another that opened in Glyndon in 1945.
Taking over the family business, Calvin’s Glyndon store evolved into a grocery where locals would come to buy the best crabs in the area. Today, what became Reter’s Crab House & Grille is now owned and operated by Calvin’s son, Brad.
On many nights, you’ll find Calvin at the popular establishment which bears his family name -- often reminiscing about Reisterstown history. That is, when he is not busy making history by raising funds for every Reisterstown cause imaginable.
