Reisterstown Public Library

Housed in a building that once belonged to Franklin Academy as the County's first public high school, our local library remains a great place to learn about history.

In the 1820's Reisterstown students learned reading, writing and arithmetic at the Franklin Academy.  In 1874, it became Baltimore County’s first public high school and school bells continued to ring there for close to close to a century thereafter.

Home to the Reisterstown Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library since 1961, the building also maintains a collection of documents, photographs, news articles and family histories about Reisterstown and the surrounding area.  Staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers, the Reisterstown Room is normally open on Tuesdays from noon to 3:00 p.m. and on the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Come discover the history of Reisterstown, but call ahead to be sure the volunteers are available.
